Character

Exceptional Heritage. Unwavering Courage. A Heart of Gold.

Some dogs inherit impressive pedigrees. Others inherit remarkable physical attributes. And then there are those rare dogs who seem to inherit something even more special: the courage, resilience and spirit of the extraordinary dogs who came before them.

Craffenheim Felix Jones is one such dog.

Bred from Indio delle Abbadesse of Craffenheim and Eydis the Eyeless of Craffenheim, Felix is a promising young male whose heritage tells a story of bravery, survival and an unshakable will to overcome adversity. His father, Indio, brings impressive size, substance and masculine breed type, while his mother, Eydis, contributes a temperament that we consider truly exceptional. Through Eydis, Felix is also the grandson of Craffenheim Black, one of the bravest Rottweilers in our kennel.

Yet what makes Felix truly special is not simply the courage in his ancestry or the power of his physical presence. It is the remarkable temperament that accompanies it. Large, strong and imposing, Felix possesses one of the most congenial personalities among our young males and an extraordinary love for people.

He is living proof that strength and gentleness are not opposing qualities. In the right dog, they complement one another beautifully.

A Name with a Sporting Spirit

Felix carries a name chosen with a little sporting inspiration.

Named after Felix Jones, the Irish rugby coach and former Ireland international who joined the Springboks' coaching staff, our Felix shares his namesake's connection to the world of South African rugby.

At Craffenheim, we appreciate determination, resilience, teamwork and the courage to stand firm when circumstances demand it. These are qualities we admire in sport, and they are qualities we value just as much in our Rottweilers.

Our Felix may not be planning rugby strategies, but he certainly has the physical presence to command attention. More importantly, he has the character to make his name memorable for reasons all his own.

Born from Two Extraordinary Survivors

To understand Felix, one must first understand the remarkable dogs who gave us him.

His maternal grandfather, Craffenheim Black, demonstrated extraordinary courage when a Rinkhals snake threatened a litter of puppies. Black intervened, was bitten in the process, and survived without permanent damage. His actions remain a powerful reminder of the protective instincts and bravery that can emerge when a dog is faced with danger.

It is a story that earned Black a special place in our hearts and one that forms an important part of Felix's family heritage.

Felix's mother, Eydis the Eyeless of Craffenheim, has her own remarkable story of resilience. As a tiny puppy, Eydis suffered a freak accident that cost her an eye and part of her cheekbone. Despite this devastating injury so early in life, she survived and continued forward, becoming a much-loved member of our kennel.

Eydis's story is not defined by what she lost, but by what she overcame.

These are not ordinary stories, and Black and Eydis are not ordinary dogs. Both have faced circumstances that would test any animal, and both have earned a special place in our hearts.

From this remarkable maternal line, together with Felix's father, Indio, we received a gift: Craffenheim Felix Jones.

We do not believe courage is something that can be guaranteed through a pedigree alone. But when we look at Felix's ancestry, we are reminded of the resilience, devotion and strength of character that make these dogs so special to us.

The Poster Child for the Rottweiler Male

If we were to describe the Rottweiler male we aspire to breed at Craffenheim, Felix would come remarkably close to the ideal.

Strong, alert and naturally protective, yet gentle, affectionate and genuinely delighted by human company, Craffenheim Felix Jones embodies the balance of qualities we value so highly in the breed.

He is a substantial, powerful young male with an imposing presence, but his temperament is what truly sets him apart. Felix has a gentle spirit and the heart of a lion — a combination that seems entirely fitting for a dog whose family includes two of the bravest Rottweilers in our kennel.

He has a beautiful love for people and an easygoing congeniality that makes him an absolute pleasure to live with. He is attentive to his surroundings, enjoys being involved in whatever is happening and has the kind of affectionate nature that reminds us that the very best Rottweilers are not simply guardians of their homes, but devoted companions to their families.

And then there are the cats.

In a first for our kennel, Felix is also rather fond of our feline residents. While we always manage interactions between our dogs and other animals responsibly, it is lovely to see a young male of his size and strength showing such a gentle side towards our cats.

Felix seems to approach life with a wonderfully uncomplicated philosophy: people are friends, cats are friends, the farm is an adventure, and there is always something interesting happening somewhere.

His temperament is a quality we treasure, and one we will continue to nurture as he matures.

The Gentle Giant of the Farm

Life on the Craffenheim farm provides Felix with an endless supply of entertainment.

He spends considerable time in the fields with the horses, which he enjoys herding for fun. The cattle appear willing to tolerate his enthusiasm too, although the ostriches have made their position abundantly clear.

Friends with the horses? Apparently.

Accepted by the cattle? More or less.

Trusted by the ostriches? Absolutely not.

Felix takes these farm adventures in his stride, always interested in what is happening around him. His natural curiosity and enjoyment of movement make the fields an exciting place to explore, and his interactions with livestock are managed with appropriate supervision and control.

For all his impressive size, Felix has one rather amusing shortcoming: he appears to have absolutely no idea just how strong he is.

Every now and then, he manages to pull someone or something with considerably more force than intended, only to look genuinely astonished by the result. One can almost imagine him wondering how such a thing could possibly have happened when he was merely going about his business.

He is still a young male learning to understand his own strength, and continued training in leash manners, impulse control and calm handling is an important part of his development.

But when Felix is happiest, he is usually doing one of two things: running freely across the fields or rolling enthusiastically in the mud.

That last activity may have a familiar origin. Felix shares his father Indio's apparent appreciation for a good mud bath. Cleanliness, it seems, is a temporary condition at Craffenheim — particularly when Felix has access to an open field and a muddy patch of ground.

He is a powerful young dog who enjoys life with an enthusiasm that is impossible not to love.

A Pedigree of Courage, Substance and Temperament

Felix's ancestry is particularly meaningful to us because it brings together qualities that we consider fundamental to the Rottweiler.

His father, Indio delle Abbadesse of Craffenheim, contributes the substantial physical presence, impressive head type and masculine appearance that we admire in Felix. The resemblance between father and son is a source of considerable pride, and we look forward to seeing how these characteristics develop as Felix matures.

Through his mother, Eydis the Eyeless of Craffenheim, Felix descends from Craffenheim Black, his maternal grandfather. Black's extraordinary courage in protecting a litter of puppies from a Rinkhals snake remains one of the most memorable stories in our kennel. His bravery is an important part of Felix's maternal heritage.

But Felix's inheritance is about more than physical attributes and acts of courage.

His mother, Eydis, has an exceptional temperament that we value enormously. Despite the adversity she experienced as a puppy, she remains a much-loved member of our kennel, and her gentle, congenial nature is a quality we particularly appreciate in Felix.

Felix brings together his father's impressive physical type, his maternal grandfather's remarkable story of courage and his mother's beautiful temperament.

From Indio, we see the powerful head and substantial physical presence. From his maternal grandfather, Craffenheim Black, we remember the courage that defines this special family line. From Eydis, Felix displays the gentle, people-loving temperament that makes him such a pleasure to have around.

We recognise that courage, temperament and physical characteristics cannot be guaranteed by pedigree alone. Each dog must be evaluated as an individual. Nevertheless, seeing these qualities come together in Felix gives us every reason to appreciate his heritage and follow his development with great interest.

A Future Built on the Right Foundations

Felix is still young, and we are allowing him the time he needs to mature before considering his future as a breeding male.

He will only be considered for our breeding programme once he has reached the applicable KUSA age requirements and completed the relevant health and genetic testing. His mature conformation, movement, temperament, soundness and overall suitability will all be important considerations.

At Craffenheim, we believe the ideal Rottweiler male must be more than big, powerful or impressive to look at. He should possess a sound temperament, a stable and confident nature, the ability to be appropriately protective, and a genuine capacity to form strong bonds with his people.

Felix is already demonstrating many of the qualities we value, particularly his exceptional congeniality and love for human companionship. His physical development and health will need to support that promise, and we will make our decisions carefully when the time comes.

Our aim is to contribute positively to the future of the Rottweiler in South Africa by breeding dogs that combine correct type, functional structure, dependable health and the temperament that makes this breed so remarkable.

Felix gives us plenty to look forward to. For now, he is enjoying his youth, exploring the farm, befriending the cats, herding the horses, negotiating with the cattle and avoiding the ostriches — all while apparently remaining unaware of the considerable strength at the end of his lead.

He has the heart of a lion, the spirit of a gentleman and a very muddy future ahead of him.

Craffenheim Felix Jones — A True Gift

Felix is still at the beginning of his journey. His development lies ahead, and his future as a potential breeding male will depend on his maturity, health assessments and overall suitability.

For now, we are simply enjoying the privilege of watching him grow.

He is powerful yet congenial, substantial yet affectionate, and descended from dogs whose courage and resilience have earned them a permanent place in the Craffenheim story.

His father, Indio, gives him his impressive physical presence. His maternal grandfather, Black, gives us a family history of extraordinary bravery. His mother, Eydis, contributes the exceptional temperament that makes Felix such a special young male.

Felix is more than the son of a powerful sire and the grandson of a courageous hero. He is a beautiful young male in his own right, with a temperament that makes us proud and a future we look forward to exploring.

Named with a nod to the sporting spirit of South Africa, bred from extraordinary courage, and blessed with a heart that loves people, Craffenheim Felix Jones is a very special addition to our kennel.

A powerful male. A gentle soul. A legacy of courage — and a gift from Indio and Eydis, with Black's bravery woven into his maternal heritage.
