Craffenheim Astor — The Princess of Craffenheim
Exceptional Pedigree. Powerful Presence. Unmistakable Personality.
At Craffenheim Rottweilers, we believe that a truly exceptional breeding female must be more than an impressive pedigree or a beautiful example of the breed. She must embody the qualities we strive to preserve and improve: outstanding conformation, sound temperament, maternal instinct, presence and the distinctive character that makes the Rottweiler such a remarkable breed.
Craffenheim Astor is all of these things — and very much her own girl.
Highly pedigreed and bred from the exceptional combination of Hasko vom Hause Anin and Craffenheim Zaynah, Astor represents a carefully valued blend of powerful bloodlines, excellent breed type and desirable temperament. She is a substantial, impressive female whose presence commands attention, and whose personality ensures that nobody forgets her in a hurry.
The Princess — By Name, By Nature
Known affectionately as The Princess, Astor possesses a confident, high-and-mighty attitude that is entirely her own. She is intelligent, capable and obedient — right up until she decides that obedience no longer aligns with her personal interests. At that point, her father Hasko’s legendary Rottweiler stubbornness makes its appearance, and negotiations become considerably more complicated.
Her royal status is not merely a matter of opinion; Astor has provided us with ample evidence.
Dissatisfied with the bed originally provided for her, she inspired us to purchase a replacement fit for a princess. Unfortunately, the new bed failed to meet her exacting standards as well. Her solution was decisive: she dismantled it into approximately one hundred pieces.
And that, in a nutshell, is Princess Astor.
Beneath her regal airs and wonderfully strong-willed personality, however, lies a deeply affectionate girl. In between her bouts of princessness, Astor adores cuddles, loves human interaction and is never short of something to say. She is a lovable, expressive companion with a wonderful capacity for affection — a reminder that a Rottweiler’s strength of character can coexist beautifully with a loving nature.
A Female of Substance and Excellent Breed Type
Astor is a large, powerful female with the substance, structure and presence we value in the Rottweiler. Her pedigree brings together influential bloodlines, including Balou vom Silberblick appearing four times in her ancestry — a notable feature of her heritage, given his reputation as a sire whose progeny were known for their size and substance.
Astor's physical qualities reflect the type we seek to preserve in our breeding programme. She boasts excellent conformation, rich and well-defined Rottweiler colouring, ideal markings, a strong topline and a deep, solid chest that contributes to her impressive overall appearance.
Her movement is another notable attribute, displaying qualities reminiscent of her father, Hasko vom Hause Anin. Combined with her powerful frame and balanced structure, this contributes to a female who makes a compelling impression both standing and in motion.
For us, Astor is not simply a big female. She is a female whose substance is complemented by the structural qualities and breed characteristics that matter when evaluating a prospective breeding dog.
The Heart of a Mother
Perhaps one of Astor’s most valuable qualities reveals itself when she becomes a mother.
For all her princess-like demands and independent streak, Astor demonstrates a profound bond with her puppies. She is attentive, deeply connected to her litter and fiercely protective of her young. Her maternal commitment is a quality we particularly appreciate in our breeding females.
This instinctive devotion is something we recognise in her mother, Craffenheim Zaynah, whose influence is evident in Astor’s nurturing side. It is a wonderful reminder that a pedigree passes on more than physical characteristics; temperament, instinct and the qualities that make a dependable mother are equally important considerations in a responsible breeding programme.
Astor’s ability to combine affection with attentiveness and protectiveness makes her maternal temperament a particularly valued part of her contribution to Craffenheim Rottweilers.
A Valuable Part of the Craffenheim Breeding Programme
Astor’s progeny have already demonstrated the promise we seek in our breeding programme. Her pedigree, physical qualities and maternal attributes make her a female we regard with considerable confidence and respect.
At Craffenheim Rottweilers, breeding decisions are never made on pedigree alone. We believe that every pairing should have a purpose, with careful consideration given to the strengths, characteristics and potential contributions of both parents.
Astor will therefore be bred selectively and with clear objectives: to produce outstanding Rottweilers that reflect the qualities we value, strengthen our kennel and contribute positively to the future of the breed in South Africa.
Our ambition is not simply to produce more Rottweilers, but to produce better Rottweilers — dogs with sound temperaments, excellent structure, desirable breed type and the character that has made the Rottweiler so admired around the world.
Astor has an important role to play in that vision.
Princess Astor — An Unmistakable Original
Powerful yet affectionate. Independent yet deeply devoted. Strong-willed yet loving. Astor is a female of remarkable character, shaped by an impressive pedigree and blessed with qualities we value both in the show ring and in the whelping box.
She carries the influence of her parents with distinction, combining Hasko’s physical attributes and stubborn streak with the loving and maternal qualities we recognise in Zaynah.
And while her future contributions to the breed are a serious matter, one thing is certain: life at Craffenheim would be considerably less entertaining without her.
She is Princess Astor — a valued breeding female, a devoted mother, and a very special member of the Craffenheim family.
